Jivaro Volunteers with OzHarvest: Fighting Food Waste and Feeding Communities
At Jivaro, we’re passionate about making a positive impact in the communities we serve. Last Friday, our amazing Sydney team had the opportunity to volunteer with OzHarvest, Australia’s leading food rescue organisation. OzHarvest plays a critical role in collecting quality excess food from commercial outlets and delivering it to over 1,300 charities across the country, ensuring it reaches those who need it most.
Our team dove right into the action, learning firsthand about the staggering issue of food waste in Australia. We were shocked to discover that 90% of the ingredients we used throughout the day were rescued food—perfectly good produce and items that would have otherwise gone to waste. It was an eye-opening experience to see just how much edible food is discarded daily and how these rescued ingredients could be turned into nutritious meals.
We split into two teams, each tasked with creating delicious, wholesome meals. It was a fantastic team-building exercise, but more importantly, these meals were prepped and ready to be delivered to shelters and people in need. Over the weekend, these meals were distributed to ensure that the rescued food reached those who needed it most.
In addition to hands-on experience in the kitchen, our team also gained valuable knowledge about reducing food waste in our own homes. From simple tips like smarter grocery shopping to better meal planning, we learned practical ways to make a difference in our daily lives.
The day with OzHarvest was not only incredibly rewarding but also a powerful reminder of the importance of sustainability and resourcefulness. We are so grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such a vital cause and support OzHarvest’s incredible mission of reducing food waste and feeding those in need.

Last Thursday, the Jivaro community came together for an exciting attempt to set a Guinness World Records title for the largest gathering of people air guitaring simultaneously via Zoom. While we didn’t break the record this time, we had an unforgettable experience filled with fun, laughter, and plenty to celebrate! 🎸
At Jivaro, we are deeply committed to using our platform to make a positive impact and give back to the community that supports us. We are thrilled to announce that through our air guitar event, we raised an incredible $11,158 for Bear Cottage Children’s Hospice—the only children’s hospice in NSW. Bear Cottage provides vital care and support to children with life-limiting illnesses and their families, and we couldn’t be prouder of the Jivaro community for helping us achieve this phenomenal result.
